Taking care of the environment, being conscious about their choices, and aiming to see results immediately. All this is a description of Millennials, born between 1980 and 2000. According to statistics, there are more Millennials, than Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964. So how do Millennials can ensure we get clean water? There are a number of reasons how Millennials can impact the water industry and wastewater management industry as well as they can impact the world to think differently about the environment.
There are approximately 80 million people who are considered to be Millennials, and they outnumber Baby Boomers. These two generations were raised differently with different kinds of values. Millennials were raised with bottled water already, and they would rather buy bottled water from the shop than drink it directly from the tap. However, as Millennials are also more aware of the environment and pollution levels, they try to reduce buying plastic bottles. Instead, they choose to buy a reusable cup or a glass water bottle to reduce plastic pollution. While this is a tough situation for all water treatment industries, the water production companies have to re-think their strategies on how they market their product.
Millennials are people who know what they want and how to get it. They are not going to agree to something that will not ensure a high quality of life. Their standards have changed. They want to have successful careers in large cities with high salaries, but at the same time, they also want a peaceful country life with their family and shopping on Sunday on organic food markets. This is the time for water industry companies to think about how they will target Millennials, but also ensure the product they deliver is clean and will not increase water shortage in the world.
Water industry companies have few options on how they can ensure clean water, taking care of the environment, but at the same time appeal to Millennials and their desires. First of all, water industries need to understand the importance of research. It is vital to know how many countries have access to clean water; what countries currently struggle to deliver clean water to their citizens. By being armed with this knowledge, water industry companies can create marketing campaigns in which they will invite Millennials to help those countries who are struggling to find clean water.
This can be done by simply finding charity organizations that ensure the delivery of clean water to South Africa or countries from the Third World. By doing so, both the consumer and the company will help the rest of the world battle water shortage. Another important thing to do is to think about water pollution and wastewater treatment plans. Different companies can work together with charity organizations or wastewater treatment companies, to encourage the government to increase water treatment plants around the country. This way families may be able to drink tap water again, which will reduce the purchase of plastic water bottles.
By appealing to a specific population, water industry companies can actually draft a plan where their production and wastewater management will benefit the environment, government, and the population. It is important to understand that Millennials want to see action and positive change in the world, and by uniting them to promote clean water it can help the rest of the world in the long run.
